How to avoid stroke

Many people think of stroke as heart disease. But it is a brain disease. Stroke is one of the leading non-communicable diseases that kills older people worldwide.

Symptoms

Sudden turning of the face, paralysis of one side of the arm and leg, slurred speech, loss of consciousness, dizziness, loss of body balance, sudden loss of sight in one eye, and slurred speech can be common symptoms of stroke.

A stroke can happen for many reasons. Factors that increase the risk of stroke include diabetes, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, smoking, or any other drug addiction.

How to Identify

If symptoms of stroke appear, you should be taken to a nearby hospital immediately. A CT scan or MRI of the head should be done there first.

Treatment

If the stroke patient is admitted to the hospital within a certain period, it is possible to provide better care through thrombolysis treatment. If these treatments are done quickly, the patient recovers completely. Many public and private hospitals in our country have thrombolysis services.

Along with the treatment of stroke, its causes and complications should also be addressed. Diabetes and high blood pressure should be kept under control.

If you are addicted to smoking or any other addiction, you should quit it. If you have heart disease, thyroid problems, kidney disease, or excess cholesterol in your blood, you need to take the necessary medicine. Physiotherapy has a special role in stroke paralysis.

Ways of prevention

Eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and leading a stress-free lifestyle are some of the ways to prevent stroke. If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, keep it under control.
